“God Bless You Both” embroidery made by Rose’s grandmother at her Dorcas club in Jamaica in 1989 or 90. It was given to Rose as a wedding present in July 1990. It is the object that inspired Rose’s PhD Embroidered table mat made by Rose’s aunt at the same Dorcas club in Jamaica, around the same time. It was also given to Rose as a wedding present Dorcas club in China, first half of the 20th century “Jazz Stories: Mama Can Sing, Papa Can Blow #1: Somebody Stole My Broken Heart,” Faith Ringgold, 2004 The African wax fabric Rose mentions are the end of the episode. She found it in the Board of Trade archive. It is design number 495066, registered in 1964. Rose writes, “unless we as academics go into the archives there is work that will remain hidden and never discussed, and this is even more important for design and textile practitioners, as it allows us to locate new approaches to material culture and its relationship the wider world.”
